TurboAppeal, an online service for appealing property taxes, has raised $1.5 million.

The Chicago-based technology company launched its product in February. It charges customers only if their assessments are reduced, taking a percentage of the savings.

Investors include real estate brokerage @Properties, as well as Hyde Park Venture Partners and Hyde Park Angels.

The company was founded by Badal Shah. TurboAppeal already has attracted 4,000 clients, a spokeswoman says. With the funding, the company plans to expand the product availability from Cook County to Florida, a spokeswoman said.

A similar startup, Seattle-based ValueAppeal, shut down several years ago after raising $6.4 million. ValueAppeal charged a flat fee of $99.
