Chicago-based Xaptum has raised $2.2 million in seed funding, the Internet of Things company announced from the stage Thursday at the Chicago Venture Summit.

Xaptum builds infrastructure that lets connected devices message each other. Apps that use Xaptum include parking space sensors, real-time roadside assistance, digital signage and crime analytics.

Investors include Fieldglass co-founder Jai Shekhawat ⇒, said CEO Rohit Pasam.

The company, which was founded in 2013 and works out of tech hub 1871 in the Merchandise Mart, won an Up-and-Comer Award at the 2015 Chicago Innovation Awards in October.

Xaptum representatives were not immediately available for further comment.

The Venture Summit includes a full day of programming at the Google Chicago office, bringing together Chicago startup founders and venture-capital investors with out-of-town VCs checking out new Chicago businesses.
